How is being successful a personal choice? To some extent or another, everyone wants to be successful in life. No matter how big or small the goals are, we all have things we want to succeed at. For example, a college student might be looking to pass a difficult science course, or a business employee may be seeking to get a raise. However, you also have those who are looking to succeed in larger goals, such as buying a car or even building their own business. Regardless, it’s always important that you take the necessary steps in order to be successful. The problem is that many want to achieve their goals, but they don’t want to put forth the work that’s required to do so.
Nothing in life that’s worth having, however, will come easy. As an example, let’s go back to the student who wants to pass a difficult science course. If he/she wants to be successful in that area, they’re going to have to study a lot, and maybe even get a personal tutor. As for someone who wants to build their own business, they might have to start from the bottom and work their way up. Maybe it would be best for them to save up on money for a few years before they even take action. With that said, when it comes to accomplishing your goals, being successful is a personal choice. You control your own destiny and have the tools and resources to make it happen. Here is why it’s your own choice to be successful.
One of the reasons why being successful’s a personal choice is because we have free will. This is one thing that makes us unique from other animals. As Jim Rohn even said, every life form except human beings operates by instinct in the genetic code. On top of that, we also have multiple ways of adjusting our daily and even seasonal schedules. For example, daylight savings, which is actually coming up very soon. We can set our clocks back which gives us an extra hour of sleep, or move our clocks forward and we lose an hour. Animals, on the other hand, don’t have this luxury. Whenever it’s daytime, animals have to wake up at a designated time and don’t get to sleep an extra hour or two the way we do. They have no choice but to obey the patterns of each day. As another example, let’s look at the patterns of animals in the wintertime.
Animals hibernate by instinct, and you certainly can’t prevent a bear or skunk from doing so. After all, it’s in their code, and they know no other way. The second these animals get even the slightest hint of cold weather, they know it’s time to get ready. Not to mention animals even start gathering and eating food long before winter approaches. See what I mean? However, compare that to the choices we have in the wintertime.
First of all, it’s true that we tend to stay inside a lot during the winter and gorge ourselves on fatty foods. In fact, some people have even said that wintertime is basically hibernation for humans. The difference, however, is that we’re not bound by the cold weather. We can still go out for some hot apple cider, buy groceries for Christmas, or even play in the snow if we’re at a young age. Overall, free will is one reason why we can be successful if we choose to. We control our own destiny, and all of our actions aren’t based on instinct.
However, being successful is also a personal choice, because there are always opportunities knocking on your door. Basically, we have a choice to succeed because the ways to be successful, are usually right in front of us. However, the problem is that many people just don’t know where to look. For example, let’s say that you recently graduated from college, and are looking for your first job. You’ve been searching for months, and still, haven’t found employment. Many people have an easier time getting a job if they have connections. Have you thought about contacting one of your college professors? For all that you know, they might be able to hook you up with someone in the industry. Especially if that professor taught a course you majored in. Let’s look at a final example of how being successful is a personal choice.
When it comes to being successful, another reason it’s a personal choice is because you always have the ability to act now or later. This is especially true for someone who knows what it’s going to take to succeed. As an example, let’s go back to the college student who is trying to pass their difficult science course. During the first few days of taking the course, they realize it’s going to be challenging.
However, instead of seeking a tutor right off the bat, they keep trying to figure out the course on their own. At this point, they know good and well that a tutor will help them with their struggles. They have the ability to act now and seek assistance, or act later and risk failing the course when it’s almost too late. Overall, this is another reason why success is a personal choice, especially when an opportunity is right in front of you. If you pass on it anyway, you have no one to blame but yourself when it becomes a missed opportunity.
